Sweet and Spicy Nuts
Sweet, savory, salty with a little heat. Great snack!
- 3/4 cup White granulated sugar
- 2 Tbsp. Light brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp. Kosher salt
- 1 tsp. Chili powder
- 1 tsp. New Mexican chili powder
- 1 tsp. Cayenne pepper
- 1/2 tsp. Ancho chili powder
- 1/2 tsp. Smoked paprika
- 2 tsp. Cinnamon
- 1 lge Egg white
- 1 1/3 cups Walnut halves, raw When the nuts are all mixed you want 4 cups.
- 1 1/3 cups Slivered almonds, raw
- 1 1/3 cups Pecan halves, raw
Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Cover a rimmed baking sheet with foil. Spray with cooking spray.
In a small bowl, whisk the brown and white sugar, salt, chili powders, smoked paprika and cinnamon. In a larger bowl, whisk the egg white until frothy. Add the nuts to the egg white along with the sugar/spice mixture and toss to cover thoroughly with the egg white.
Spread the nuts out on the prepared baking sheet and bake for about 45 minutes, stirring once, until nicely browned.
Let the nuts cool completely on the baking sheet, stirring occasionally to break up the larger clumps of nuts. Once cooled, store in zip lock bags or tightly covered containers.
